The APM's responsibility is to stay in constant contact with the other field personnel, contractor representatives, and the Project Manager(s) to proactively identify issues before they occur and address all issues that may arise. Superintendents must demonstrate strong supervisory experience, as they must manage a team of workers and meet goals independently of the other aspects of construction and with minimal oversight.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform field inspections and provide prime contractors coordination
- Have the ability to Direct day-to-day on-site supervision of field labor force including assistants, supervisors, subcontractors, and other construction-related personnel
- Assist Project Manager in the supervision and responsibility of the total construction effort in accordance with design, budget, quality, and schedule)
- Assist with providing technical assistance (interpretation of drawings, recommendation of construction methods and equipment, etc.) as required
- Inspection of Contractor or (Sub)Contract operations to ensure compliance with Contract
- Maintain good relationships with internal and external clients, including representatives of Owner and Architect/Engineer
- Develop and maintain site coordination plan, in coordination with Sr. Project Manager
- Conduct quality inspections
- Coordinate site testing and inspection efforts
- Monitor costs, including labor time and material
- Communicate and enforce the Project Health Management Program
- Demonstrate commitment to an Injury-Free Environment through own actions and mentoring others
- Manage schedules, including preparation of detailed short-term schedules, and ensuring all activities take place on or ahead of scheduled dates
- Prepare and submit Superintendent’s Daily Reports to document weather and field conditions, trade and subcontractor manpower, progress and conditions impacting the project, as well as Accident Reports, Quality Reports, etc.
- Conduct subcontractor meetings
- Attend and participate in project meetings
- Providing training and education to support field superintendents and engineers
- Actively mentoring other Superintendents and upcoming Assistant Superintendents to promote their development
- Help set a positive tone for the project. This would include instilling an “esprit de corps” among the workers, staff, sub-contractors, and all persons involved in the project.
- Broad understanding of commercial construction- Interiors, parking garages, meeting spaces and vertical transportation
- Knowledge and understanding Labor Regulations
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Strong leadership and management skills
- Function effectively within a team unit
- Broad understanding of construction documents and drawings
- Computer proficient with ability to adapt to new innovations and processes
- Broad knowledge of construction industry including equipment, labor, means and methods, codes, and standards
- Minimum of 3 years of related construction experience, infrastructure experience preferred.
- 30 OSHA card preferred
- Degree in architectural, engineering preferred.
