The Whitney’s Academic Year Internship program offers a semester-long paid internship for undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in an accredited academic program. The internship is hybrid, with some onsite work. For Fall 2025, interns commit between 16–21 hours per week over 10–12 weeks for a total of 200 hours. Interns are assigned to a specific department at the Museum for the duration of the internship. The Whitney seeks aK-12 Initiativesintern within the Education Department for Fall 2025.

Expected Projects & Assignments

  • Help prepare for programs by collecting and organizing art supplies
  • Work with the Museum’s Freelance Educators to assist with K-12 school groups visiting the museum for guided tours and virtual programs
  • Assist School Programs staff in small-scale research projects, including data collection & analysis
  • Conduct research for new exhibitions and create resource packets for Freelance Educators
  • Assist Educator Programs staff with professional development workshops and other School Program events
  • Assist in managing the School Programs calendar, website and mailing list

Skills & Qualifications

  • The candidate should be organized and outgoing, with an interest in working with school and teacher audiences
  • Candidates with experience working with children of different ages and a desire to learn more about inquiry-based teaching in the galleries are a plus
  • Undergraduates currently enrolled in accredited academic year programs are eligible
  • Applicants must have completed a minimum of one year’s worth of academic coursework; undergraduate freshmen are not eligible
  • While a demonstrated interest in art and art history is preferred, students in all majors are encouraged to apply
  • Previous museum experience is not required

Compensation

Interns will be paid a stipend of $3000.
