Job Description
Purpose:
The Magnet Program Director, under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), is responsible for overseeing pathway to excellence, magnet, and all other nursing excellence designations at New York City Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health (SBH). The Magnet Program Director serves as a strategic leader responsible for advancing nursing practice, professional development, and clinical excellence across the organization.
Specific Duties And Responsibilities
The Director of Nursing Lv 4 is charged with and responsible for:
- Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute a comprehensive nursing excellence strategy aligned with organizational goals.
- Lead the organization’s efforts to achieve and maintain Magnet designation or other nursing excellence recognitions.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on nursing standards, evidence-based practice, and professional development.
- Nursing Practice and Professional Development
- Oversee the development and implementation of programs that advance nursing education, certification, and leadership skills.
- Foster a culture of shared governance and nursing autonomy to empower nurses at all levels.
- Collaborate with nurse educators and leaders to identify and address professional development needs.
- Quality and Patient Outcomes
- Monitor and analyze nursing quality indicators and patient outcome metrics, implementing strategies for continuous improvement.
- Lead performance improvement initiatives to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
- Promote the use of evidence-based practice and research to enhance clinical outcomes.
- Magnet and Accreditation Standards
- Guide the organization through the Magnet designation process, including document preparation, submission, and survey readiness.
- Conduct regular gap analyses to identify areas for improvement in alignment with Magnet standards.
- Serve as the primary liaison with the Magnet Recognition Program and other accrediting bodies.
- Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Leadership
- Partner with executive leadership, department heads, and interdisciplinary teams to align nursing excellence initiatives with organizational priorities.
- Represent nursing in organizational decision-making and strategic planning forums.
- Facilitate collaboration between nursing staff and other departments to improve care delivery and operational efficiency.
- Staff Engagement and Retention
- Develop initiatives to enhance staff satisfaction, retention, and engagement, including recognition programs and professional growth opportunities.
- Address workforce challenges by implementing evidence-based strategies to improve recruitment and retention of nursing talent.
- Act as a mentor and resource for nursing leaders and staff.
- Data Management and Reporting
- Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of data related to nursing quality, safety, and patient outcomes.
- Prepare reports for leadership and accreditation bodies highlighting achievements in nursing excellence.
- Use data to drive decision-making and prioritize nursing initiatives.
- Innovation and Research
- Promote and support nursing research initiatives, ensuring integration into practice where applicable.
- Introduce innovative practices and technologies to enhance nursing care delivery and professional practice.
- Stay informed of trends in healthcare and nursing to ensure the organization remains a leader in nursing excellence.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements related to nursing practice and patient care.
- Develop policies and procedures to support nursing excellence and accreditation standards.
- Budget and Resource Management
- Manage budgets for nursing excellence programs and initiatives.
- Advocate for resources and investments that support nursing practice and quality improvement.
- Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State; and,
- A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration or an equivalent field, and a minimum of four years of high-level responsible experience in nursing administration, three years of which shall have been in a hospital; or,
- A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
- Leadership characteristics required to achieve a multidisciplinary approach to achieve the mission, vision, and goals of the organization

- Experience in health care administration in a large and complex setting
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills are crucial for success in this role
- Familiarity with the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program and other nursing excellence designations
