About Us The Burk Laboratory of the Pediatrics Department is one of the foremost HPV labs in the world. The main focus of the Burk laboratory is to understanding how evolution of human papillomaviruses (HPV) has resulted in the emergence of HPV types that are highly pathogenic and cause multiple cancers in humans (e.g., cervix, head & neck, skin). The studies of the HPV genome are translational in nature (i.e., contribute to knowledge about how to use HPV testing to prevent cervix cancer). The Burk Laboratory is seeking a Research Technician A to assist with a research project that involves the molecular genetic characterization of HPV genomes from clinical samples. The studies are involved in characterizing the presence, specific type and methylation state (i.e., CpG methylation) of the viral genome and cervix pre-cancer and cancer. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES The person will: Perform a few, relatively simple, technical procedures; Rarely analyze data. Receive samples Process DNA Enter data Other related research laboratory duties as needed require intermittent guidance Rarely be responsible for ordering supplies and equipment for the laboratory QUALIFICATIONS Required to have High School diploma and one year technical school, or Associate's degree or equivalent skills and experience Knowledgable in basic computer software such as word, excel and powerpoint preferred Hiring Rate $23.44 Post Probationary Rate $23.98 Job Rate $24.72 Minimum Salary Range Maximum Salary Range
