Position Summary: Community Schools support the social, emotional, physical and academic needs of students by offering a coordinated approach to increasing opportunities for young people and improving the academic performance of students through partnerships among principals, parents, teachers and community-based organizations (CBOs). Schools enter a partnership with a local CBO to offer a “whole child, whole community” approach, looking holistically at students, families, and communities to ascertain their most pressing needs and decide which services will best address those needs. The Office of Community Schools (OCS) supports community school implementation in over 400 schools and supports most school-based afterschool programs across the city, including serving as the primary liaison with the City’s Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD).
As a key member of the Office of Community Schools, the Community Partnerships Coordinator will support OCS operations and program teams in a range of areas, including reporting, monitoring and evaluations of community & student engagement services to ensure schools and community-based organization (CBO) partners implement the community school’s framework with fidelity. The Community Partnerships Coordinator will liaise with CBO partners to ensure compliance with funding and purchasing requirements. Performs related work.

Key Relationships: Works closely with the Senior Operations Manager, Chief Operating Officer, OSYD central and borough-based staff, including Directors, Senior Program Managers, Program Managers, STH Regional Managers, and representatives of various NYCPS divisions, including the Division of Financial Operations, Central Business Office, Division of Contracts and Purchasing, as well as external CBO partners.
Responsibilities
- Assists with the coordination, review, and communication of responses to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders regarding service providers.
- Serves as a liaison to community-based providers and community-based organizations (CBOs) providing services to schools.
- Prepares evaluation reports, performs analyses and reviews program plans, funding and
- performance.
- Assists the Associate Director with monitoring OCS budget and expenditure.
- Works in conjunction with the Division of Financial Operations Accounts Payable unit in follow-up with on purchase order certification of delivery of goods and services to ensure that CBOs and vendors are paid in a timely manner.
- Assists OCS team in developing and processing MTACs (multi-task awards contracts) for community-based organizations and schools.
- Creates purchase orders and certifies invoices in FAMIS for community-based partners.
- Assists the Associate Director with the purchasing process for community-based organization partners.
- Provides technical assistance and training to subordinate staff in the techniques of the program implementation and management.
- Updates, monitors, and evaluates the implementation of community school services leveraging spreadsheets, databases, and NYCPS systems.
- Makes recommendations on procedures that will help streamline current community service programs.
- Reviews program materials to ensure that they provide all required documents prior to submission to Accounts Payable for payment processing.
- Assists Associate Directors with the fiscal year-end reconciliation and closing out balances for OCS’s funded programs.
Minimum
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
- High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in “1” above.
In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, individuals must have two additional years of the experience described in "1" above.
Preferred
- Strong problem-solving and financial analysis skills; effective spoken and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of NYCPS’s policies and procedures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications.
- Familiarity with NYCPS systems, including FAMIS, TRAC, and LCGMS.
- Attentive to detail and extremely well-organized, with the ability to work under pressure and meet frequent and changing deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize, work independently, handle many responsibilities simultaneously, and provide follow-up.
- Strong spoken and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of NYCPS Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for procurement.
