Housing Coordinator
Brooklyn, Harlem, Manhattan, Staten Island - New York
Job Type: Full-Time - Temp to Hire
Compensation: $24-27 hour
We are seeking a dedicated Housing Coordinators to support families experiencing homelessness as they transition into permanent housing. This role focuses on navigating housing subsidies, building relationships with landlords, coordinating services, and advocating for clients throughout the housing process.
Housing Search Support: Guide families through the housing search, application, and placement process; assist with completing housing applications and understanding various subsidies.
Landlord & Broker Engagement: Cultivate and maintain a network of landlords and brokers to secure safe, affordable housing options.
Workshops & Events: Facilitate housing-related workshops and attend housing fairs to connect clients with resources.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain up-to-date records of client progress and submit timely reports in accordance with program requirements.
Client Advocacy: Support clients during apartment viewings, lease signings, and move-in procedures.
Compliance Monitoring: Ensure all housing placements adhere to local housing laws, building codes, and lease agreements.
Team Collaboration: Coordinate with case managers and other staff to provide holistic support and housing stability.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field preferred.
Experience: Prior experience working with NYC’s housing systems and vulnerable populations, particularly homeless or at-risk families.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of housing subsidies (e.g., Section 8), supportive housing programs, and public benefit systems.
Skills: Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Technical: Familiarity with housing databases (e.g., Siebel) is a plus.
Additional Information:
May involve outreach and engagement with special populations (e.g., HIV/AIDS, child welfare-involved families).
Some evening or weekend availability may be required for workshops or viewings.
