The Young Women’s Leadership School of Astoria (TYWLS) is a 6-12 NYC DOE public school in District 30 committed to nurturing the intellectual curiosity, leadership, and voice of young women. Position Overview
TYWLS of Astoria seeks certified Special Education Teachers (Students with Disabilities 7–12) who will serve in an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) and/or Special Education Teacher Support Services (SETSS) capacity. The ideal candidate is an equity-driven educator who values collaboration, reflective practice, and innovative approaches to supporting diverse learners.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specially designed instruction and services in ICT and/or SETSS settings to support students with IEPs in meeting their academic, social-emotional, and behavioral goals.
- Collaboratively plan and co-teach with general education teachers to ensure access to rigorous, culturally responsive curriculum for all learners.
- Support the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including progress monitoring, data collection, and family communication.
- Build strong, supportive relationships with students and families, grounded in high expectations and a belief in students' capacity to grow and thrive.
- Participate in school-based special education compliance, including IEP meetings, annual reviews, and documentation in accordance with NYC DOE policies.
- Engage in regular reflection and professional learning, including team planning, inquiry cycles, coaching, and data-driven instructional decision-making.
- Contribute to a positive school culture that prioritizes student voice, leadership, and well-being.
Qualifications
- Required:
- NYS Certification in Students with Disabilities Grades 7–12 (Generalist or Content Area Specific)
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion for students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
- Experience designing and delivering differentiated instruction and accommodations aligned to student needs.
- Preferred:
- Experience in Integrated Co-Teaching and/or SETSS roles in a middle or high school setting.
- Familiarity with Project Based Learning, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), restorative practices, and competency-based education.
- Strong collaboration skills and comfort giving and receiving feedback.
