JOB SUMMARY: The SYEP Pinkerton Summer Bridge Program was developed as an opportunity to address summer melt with college bound graduating seniors by providing them with employment at our New Settlement Summer Camp through SYEP, a CUNY summer course that will be 3 hours a week on site, and the opportunity to get certified in CPR and First Aid. The Career Readiness Advisor works collaboratively with our partners: ExpandED Schools and College Access: Research in Action (CARA) to provide comprehensive work and learning experience for our Pinkerton Summer Bridge Program. The Career Readiness Advisor hires a college student as their Pinkerton Coach as a main pillar in supporting this initiative as part of our College Access and Success programs.
Job Duties Include But Not Limited To
- Oversee the SYEP Pinkerton Program logistics:
- Review student applications and finalize the selection of twenty-five students.
- Coordinate with the advisors and applicants in the collection of documents and upload them into the database.
- Ensure the students’ completion of the summer camp hiring packet, SYEP training, First Aid/CPR training, and the placement of New Settlement summer camp worksites.
- Communicate the timeline of the summer program to students and staff.
- Complete the SYEP worksite applications, update the applicant tracker including the documents and training.
- Administrative: managing student SYEP payroll hours through attendance (Youth Development course and summer camp hours) and payment at the end of the bi-weekly paid period.
- Communicate and follow-up with students using the various platforms: phone, email, and in-person.
- Assist with the hiring and onboarding of the Pinkerton Coach and ensure the coach is attending their training off-site facilitated by College Access: Research in Action (CARA).
- Review the content curriculum focused on preparing first-year college students and provide facilitation feedback to Pinkerton Coach.
- Regularly check-in with New Settlement’s Student Success Director, ExpandED Schools, CUNY School for Professional Studies professor and New Settlement’s Pinkerton Coach.
- Organize, implement, and lead the orientations, end of the program evaluation, and the end of the summer celebration for the last day of class highlighting the students’ summer course and the summer camp experience.
- Arrange lunch orders with the Administrator Coordinator for the six weeks of class.
- Transition all our Pinkerton students into the Success Program – New Settlement’s internal pipeline program for matriculated to college and vocational pathways.
- Meet established goals and objectives and other tasks as provided by the Director.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
