$153,000.00 - $199,000.00

What’s the role?

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our ML Orchestration Platform team working to work with us on building and managing the tooling that powers evaluating our Search, Ads, Trust & Safety, and Recommendations systems.

As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for building systems that enable teams to confidently deploy changes to our recommendation systems before deploying them in production. These tools work by sending historical and/or simulated requests in a pre-production environment and evaluating responses to generate analytic reports. Our innovative evaluation layer helps nearly 100M buyers and over 5M sellers navigate Etsy’s extensive marketplace by enabling our teams to move quickly and confidently. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Play a central role in building evaluation tools for our search and recommendation systems
• Develop and support the core services/infrastructure of our evaluation layer
• Work cross-functionally with various platform teams, Machine Learning teams and product partners to build the next generation of our evaluation, simulation, and load testing tooling
• Practice continuous learning and agile delivery model to stay informed and focused on our deliverables.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• You have proven engineering and coding skills and data structure knowledge
• You have experience working with Java and/or Python
• You are a strong collaborator and communicator and you make the engineers around you grow and learn
• 5+yr experience in building, iterating and troubleshooting solutions to complex problems with a significant backend component
• You have built distributed services with technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, etc
• You have fundamental experience with infrastructure engineering and strong troubleshooting skills
• You have hands-on experience with Cloud technologies (Google Cloud)
• Experience with Machine Learning, in particular evaluation, is a plus
