Our client, a leader in the Home Products market, is seeking the quintessential Left brain / Right brain Creative Director with experience in Home Goods to serve as the central hub for creative product creation, compiling competitive market intelligence as well as being fiscally responsible to run a volume business. Will collaborate closely with Sales, Design, Merchandising, and Product Development and the overseas factory. Will be responsible to drive product design and development from identifying market opportunities to aligning them with the company's capabilities, strategies, sourcing, and profit margin requirements. Experience in a competitive supplier or vertical home retailer is important, and the ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of retail product design (both hard and soft goods), development processes, and mass/off price manufacturing pricing. This role is based in NYC with a hybrid schedule 2 days WFH / 3 days in-office.
- The salary range for this role is $150,000.
- Conduct bi-annual market trend analysis to identify white space opportunities. Define the size of the opportunity and determine how much design effort, time, and dollars should be spent on identified opportunities. Train the sales team on selling products by familiarizing them with the attributes of the product and trends.
- Ensure timely creation and presentation of trend-right and financially saleable product samples to address market opportunities with the right look and pricing.
- Experience managing a budget for sampling products within target costing and pricing as well as working with a Creative Budget.
- Establish strong, collaborative relationships with business partners and external customers, including buyers, factories, and retailer design teams.
- Lead the design efforts, develop the overall look and style of products, and manage advertising campaigns, photography, and showroom setups. Have and present a financial (price points) as well as a creative point of view after analyzing trends and identifying opportunities.
- Monitor competitive product lines, analyze sales data, and identify opportunities for market penetration and product re-engineering.
- Develop and maintain product sophistication levels, product matrix, and channel strategy based on consumer types and markets.
- Review and approve designs, artwork, photography, and graphics.
- Develop and manage design, brand positioning, and merchandising strategies based on market research and input from Sales.
- Oversee sample management from factories, review samples, communicate changes, and ensure timelines are met.
- Manage and develop design staff, including freelancers, ensuring clear communication.
- Responsibilities also include overseeing the visual aspects of advertising campaigns, media productions, and online publications, ensuring consistency in style and quality.
- 10+ years of experience managing product design teams in the Home retail industry.
- Must have experience working with production understanding capabilities, units, techniques, deliveries to meet the client/retailer needs.
- Should be well versed in the creation of images, illustrations, 3D renderings, graphics, photographs, patterns, and engineering drawings.
- Proven ability to bring new products to market and knowledge of market conditions.
- Experience adhering to timelines and budgets.
- Bachelor's degree in merchandising, design, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Knowledge of working with overseas factories.
- Effective communication and strong relationships with staff, management, partners, and customers.
- Motivated to strive for continuous improvement of product design and development processes.
- Experience mentoring a creative team.
