The Role
The Director of Procurement is a leadership role that actively participates in decision-making and oversees efficient and effective inventory procurement. This position involves supply planning activities with heavy cross-functional collaboration with partners across Merchandising and Operations. The Director of Procurement will lead a team of supply chain professionals, instilling purchasing and supply planning best practices across the team. This individual should be adept at managing Supply Chain metrics such as Out of Stocks, Days on Hand, and Scrap, and should be experienced in optimizing sourcing based on cost.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop and execute end-to-end fulfillment strategies to ensure a strong in-stock position, delivering on our customers’ expectations.
- Drive cultural change, infusing continuous improvement methodology and knowledge, and influencing decisions at all levels of the organization.
- Continuously monitor and help improve on defined KPIs: Out of Stocks, Scrap, Days-on-Hand, shorts, and capacity constraints.
- Lead periodic supply pulse meetings to review performance in the short and long term.
- Maintain strong working relationships and communications with the FreshDirect’s Demand Planning, Receiving, Operations, Merchandising, contract manufacturers and suppliers to confirm production/shipping schedules and monitor manufacturing and suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of all products.
- Develop and maintain metrics. Publish weekly report on performance with explanations/corrective actions.
- Support merchants in vendor management process. Provide vendor performance metrics.
- Hire, train, coach, and develop team members; promote a positive team culture to create an optimal environment for employee contribution and growth.
- Cultivate a strong customer focus, set goals, monitor progress, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Mentor/coach operational talent across the business to ensure the organization is developing a bench and operational leadership pipeline.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- 8+ years of supply chain and/or production planning experience
- Seasoned leader with a proven track record in training, coaching, and developing a team.
- Business Intelligence reporting a plus
- Excellent Microsoft Office, statistical, and data analytics skills
- Industry certifications a plus (i.e., Lean/Six Sigma, CSCP, CPIM or similar)
- Knowledge of demand, supply, and production planning along with inventory management principles
- Excellent communication, organizational, relationship-building, and conflict resolution skills

- The expected compensation for this role is $110,422-$129,908-per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be discussed during the interview process.
