Salary Range: $64.73 - $72.53

**Position Summary**



Functions as a healthcare provider who, working under the delegated authority of the supervising physician, serves as a medical imaging professional, providing clinically relevant information to assist the physician with the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role functions as the clinical, technical leader/expert in sonography imaging within the practice and responsibilities include the assistance with the supervision and professional development oversight of sonography staff. Activities are performed consistent with incumbent's education and training, and in accordance with the practice's policies and procedures and applicable professional standards.



**Job Responsibilities**



+ Functions as clinical, technical leader/expert in sonography imaging within the practice. Oversees daily operations of sonography services. Assists with workload scheduling. Provides recommendations on improvements to workflows and patient care services.

+ Provides general supervision and evaluation of sonographer staff. Provides input for the performance assessment of diagnostic sonographers.

+ Assists with the orientation and training of new staff. Provides education and training to sonographers in the utilization of new equipment features/benefits and scanning techniques.

+ Assists with the mentoring and professional development of sonography staff. Provides oversight for staff continuing education program(s) to ensure that professional knowledge, expertise and skills are maintained.

+ Assists with ensuring staff professional education requirements are met and maintained, including applicable licensure, certification and/or accreditation standards. Ensures staff compliance with clinical/operational protocols, policies and procedures.

+ Provides oversight of the system management for the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).

+ May assist with the preparation and management of budget(s).

+ Functions in full capacity as diagnostic sonographer, fullfilling associated patient-care responsibilities.

+ Supports the interpreting physician by contributing technical impressions and professional knowledge to facilitate the completion of the final diagnostic report.

+ Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA) and practice policies and procedures.

+ Assists with daily operations. Performs quality control procedures to ensure that ultrasound equipment operates at optimal levels. Performs preventative maintenance and initiates calls for equipment service as necessary.

+ Ensures that sonography examination results meet practice standards for Quality Assurance before findings are released for interpretation.

+ Works with appropriate staff to ensure quality patient care. Carries out Quality Assurance protocols and Quality Improvement measures within the practice.

+ Assists with the education and training of sonography students and physician residents.



**Education**



+ Bachelor's Degree



**Experience**



Bachelor's of Science (BS) in healthcare, healthcare management or imaging.



Extensive sonography education, training and experience in the specialty area(s) to be performed.



A minimum of five years academic hospital based experience.



Completion of a four-year Allied Health degree and successful completion of a 12-month CAAHEP approved program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or equivalent education.



Extensive clinical experience in providing sonography services and demonstrated ability to mentor and support staff sonographers.



BLS certification, issued by the American Heart Association, is preferred.



*For posiitons within Medicine/Cardiology, prospective candidates must demonstrate successful completion of at least 2 registries with 100% competency and independent performance of all exams in those specialty areas performed in the laboratory.



**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**



+ Demonstrated leadership competencies, including ability to motivate staff, excellent organizational skills, and ability to work effectively as a member of a team, in a busy, fast paced environment.

+ Ability to foster a collaborative atmosphere with other members of the healthcare team.

+ Demonstrated proficiency with computer skills and software programs used for documentation activities and report generation.



**Licenses and Certifications**



+ State sonographer licensure, where applicable.

+ Sonographer certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), and/or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).



**Working Conditions/Physical Demands**



Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.



Must be able to move 350 pound wheeled equipment as needed.



Ability to travel to various work locations and work variable shifts as needed.
