Together.Summary As an Emerging Growth & Venture Capital - Business Development & Marketing Director, you will work closely with our nationally ranked U.S. Emerging Growth and Venture Capital and Public Markets Partners to drive DLA Piper's growth. You will lead a team that is market-facing and tasked with identifying new opportunities, helping expand key client relationships, developing and driving strategic plans, and coordinating with other team members to develop and implement impactful events and sponsorships. You will work in close collaboration with the firm's partners, business development, and marketing professionals, and will own core elements of the strategic plan for this important and rapidly growing practice. Metrics for success include both quantitative data and qualitative feedback from internal and external stakeholders.Your primary focus will be to lead a team that prioritizes and drives new strategic clients and relationships, raises the firm's profile with venture capital funds and venture-backed entrepreneurs, and serves as a trusted advisor to DLA Piper attorneys and clients by building and leveraging industry knowledge and relationships.Location This position can sit in our Washington D.C., Northern Virginia, or New York office and offers a hybrid work schedule.Responsibilities Building and cultivating long-term relationships with entrepreneurs, executives, venture capital investment professionals, bankers, thought leaders, and other connectors to develop net new client opportunities in the emerging growth and venture capital practice.Collaborating with DLA Piper attorneys to drive new client acquisition and expansion of existing venture capital client relationships for DLA Piper in the US.Advising and guiding current venture-backed clients on strategic growth initiatives, including financing needs and connecting them to potentially relevant investors.Managing key client relationships and connecting clients across the DLA Piper platform for cross-collaborative opportunities globally. Creating, nurturing, and maintaining a network of venture capital investors and entrepreneurs. Identifying and facilitating the creation of venture capital market thought leadership both internally and externally.Serving as an ambassador for DLA Piper at major venture capital market programs and events and helping craft and lead such events and sponsorships.Actively supporting and attending high-level client events, sponsorships, and educational programs to drive sales pipeline outcomes and increase ROI (e.g., CEO dinners, high-profile CLE programs, etc.).Creating actionable individual business development plans for a select group of partners. Leading and collaborating with other market-facing team members on increasing connectivity and cross-collaborating opportunities within the venture capital and venture-backed company ecosystem.Serving as an internal business development coach to firm attorneys.Desired Skills Strong understanding of the venture capital and public markets ecosystems and market participants. Knowledge of the legal and professional services sectors within the venture capital and public markets ecosystems - highly desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively manage competing priorities. Strong judgment and ability to make well-reasoned independent decisions. Strategic awareness of business and commercial issues. Self-motivated and independent, able to work with minimal supervision.Project management skills, and aptitude for developing these skills. Strong executive presence and ability to influence others. A high degree of attention to detail. Hardworking and diligent with a keen understanding of client demands. Demonstrated composure when dealing with difficult situations. Invests in, nurtures, and builds a network of productive relationships. Treats delicate or confidential issues with discretion and possesses a growth mindset.
